ASSISI

Updated:08.08.08

Catholic Earthcare has a new sustainability initiative for the Catholic community in Australia: A Strategic Systems - based Integrated Sustainability Initiative (ASSISI) - for schools, parishes, congregations, health and aged care facilities and other church organisations.

The initial focus is on Catholic Schools because they are the learning hub of our communities and where we look to for generational change. ASSISI is a model and a pathway to sustainability that has been developed from our foundational document, 'On Holy Ground'.

The ASSISI for Schools program is being piloted in four schools; Catholic Earthcare Australia is working with the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, the NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change, the Catholic Education Commission of NSW, a variety of organisations with technical knowledge, a variety of community organisations, Climate Coolers and Greening Communities.

Once the pilot program has been carried out we aim to have a generic framework and model that can be applied, with some tweaking, to Catholic schools across each diocese in Australia.
Earthcare's Program Manager, Megan Seneque, will be working with Earthcare's Director, Jacqui Remond, to modify this framework for parishes, congregations and church organisations.
This is a long term plan that is envisaged to bring about a much called for change to our way of life and ecological sustainability!
